The Wolcott Wastewater Committee recently announced that we were excited that construction of the new Wolcott Village Wastewater system will begin next week. This seven-year effort will be fully realized and implemented beginning this summer and continuing through next summer. Having completed Wolcott Wastewater Committee’s primary role of fundraising, securing permits, designing, implementing, and overseeing the wastewater system construction, the Committee will disband when construction is completed next summer. A new Wolcott Wastewater Commission will be formed to oversee the operation and maintenance of the new system. The Committee and Commission will overlap and work collaboratively during the construction implementation period.
The Town of Wolcott is now actively recruiting town residents who would like to serve on the new Wastewater Commission in a volunteer capacity. The new Commission will include two select board members and three additional members of the community.
The Wastewater Commission’s primary roles will include implementing the town’s wastewater ordinance (see link below), recruit and oversee the work of a wastewater operator sub-contractor to undertake the operation and maintenance of the new system, determine new village wastewater rates, make decisions regarding new hookups and changes to wastewater allocations, and be the primary points of contact to village residents and businesses that are hooked up to the system.
The new Wastewater Commission will determine term lengths of Commission members and frequency of meetings. We are anticipating the first meeting will be scheduled for late summer or early fall of this year.
