Wolcott Elementary School students return to class on Wednesday, August 26th. The Town of Wolcott and the Wolcott Wastewater Committee would like to give the community an update on construction activities installing the Wolcott Wastewater dispersal field at the school athletic field.
The Wastewater Committee and our project partners had originally planned to have the dispersal field completed before students return to school and have at least a portion of the athletic field available for the students’ activities. Due to unforeseen construction complications the contractors working on the site are behind schedule and construction will continue to complete the dispersal field.
Large rocks were found in the top layers of the field that had to be trucked off site, screened, and then returned to the site. Construction equipment compaction and the need for mound sand to be trucked in caused additional delays. These issues are being addressed but will require additional time.
Members of the School Board, Principal, Superintendent, Wastewater Committee, and Project Engineers have recently met to ensure that school students and employee safety will be addressed by the on-going construction. The school’s soccer program has moved to the rec fields on School Street, the physical education classes have been temporarily moved inside, and recess will be held on the areas of the school property not under construction.
We sincerely apologize for these delays and inconveniences it has caused the school community while we collectively work to complete this important project.
